The Public Sector signs MOU with HRMAJ

The Public Sector, acting through the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service and the Office of the Services Commissions (OSC), today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Human Resource Management Association of Jamaica (HRMAJ). The HRMAJ is a representative body of human resource professionals in Jamaica.

The MOU provides a mechanism for collaboration between the parties on areas such as development of the human resource practice toward professional recognition and advancement of the training of human resource practitioners within the Private and Public Sectors.

The Financial Secretary, Ms. Darlene Morrison, notes that the MOU marks the commencement of another transformation initiative as we work toward improving the human resource capacity of the country. One of the expected outcomes of the collaboration is a Code of Ethics and Rules of Professional conduct, which it is hoped will not only guide human resource professionals but ultimately positively impact the wider labour force.

The Memorandum of Understanding will serve as a framework for establishing and expanding collaboration between the Public Sector and the HRMAJ for the advocacy and advancement of the Human Resources Profession throughout the country, which is expected to redound to the mutual benefit of all Jamaicans.

Mr. Karl Williams, President of HRMAJ, indicated that the HRMAJ is extremely proud of the MOU agreement with the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service and the Offices of the Services Commission. He indicated his expectation that the partnership will continue to leverage and push HRMAJ's agenda in advocating for and enhancing the human resource profession across both the private and public sectors. Mr. Williams stated that "HRMAJ looks forward to the collaborative efforts with the Ministry and the Services Commission as we work together to advance the HR profession through research, training and development and position HR professionals as key stakeholders for organizational success and national development".

Also co-signing on the MOU was Mrs. Jacqueline Mendez, Chief Personnel Officer of the OSC. She expressed delight at the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, and noted that she looked forward to specific areas as agreed being incorporated into practice.

Deputy Financial Secretary for the Strategic Human Resources Division, Mr. Wayne Jones in his closing remarks expressed appreciation to all parties for participating in the Signing Ceremony. He underscored the significance of the MOU and the impact it will have on increasing productivity throughout the public sector and in attracting human talent to the Service.
